Larry Uteck Field

Brebeuf College School

– Men For Others –

Legends Start Here

Welcome to the sports field that Larry Uteck lit up throughout his Brebeuf high school days, 1966-71. This is where Larry developed a passion for the pursuit of sport and academic excellence. He had an exceptional university experience, followed by an all-star CFL career across Canada. From 1982 to 1997, Larry inspired university student athletes as Head Football Coach at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax. He served as the university’s Athletic Director from 1997 to 2002. Larry also exemplified the Brebeuf community “men for others” mantra in the field of politics, serving as Alderman and Deputy Mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality. In 2002, the Governor General inducted Larry Uteck as a Member of the Order of Canada. His legend started here — on Larry’s first home field.

About The Granite Sign

Celebrating an Extraordinary Man for Others

The Brebeuf Alumni Association produced the granite Larry Uteck Field sign with the generous assistance of the school’s Class of ’71 alumni, on the occasion of their 50th class reunion.

This website is a resource for Brebeuf students, faculty, alumni and visitors to learn more about why many people who knew him have described Larry Uteck as “a man of character,” on and off the sports field. Hard, tough and enduring, granite is the ideal choice for the Larry Uteck Field sign.

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, the Brebeuf community will gather at the school for the unveiling of this granite field stone honouring Larry Uteck ’71, in whose memory the Brebeuf football field was renamed in 2004. You are invited!
